A Not for Profit Organisation

The South Cheshire & Vale Royal GP Alliance is a company limited by guarantee registered at Companies House – under the name SC&VR GP Alliance.

Its Articles state it is a not-for-profit membership organisation. It currently has 30 member practices – all the practices in South Cheshire and Vale Royal CCGs.

Unlike some GP Federations that have been set up with shares owned by the practices or individuals and whose main purpose is to win NHS contracts and make money, The Alliance was set up as a not-for-profit organisation with the following aims:

  • Help improve the services for our patients.
  • Help deliver the transforming Primary Care agenda
  • Help practices meet and succeed in today’s political climate, particularly with the demands of the NHS 5 year plan.

Our main plans are to work with the CCG to:

  1. Continue to deliver high quality general practice in the climate of reducing budgets – this may include sharing back office functions, pooled working, finding new income sources, joint procurement, etc
  2. Reduce variability between our practices
  3. Improve access for our patients
  4. Help look at risk pooling and sharing of budgets
  5. Be innovative in terms of IT and funding steams
  6. Represent General Practice at provider boards
  7. Deliver some provider led commissioning
  8. Work with our partners on alliance contracting or lead provider options
  9. Set up a research network
  10. Work with companies wanting to test or trial their products in a Primary Care environment
  11. Help educate, inform and upskill our member GPs and other clinicians

We are lead by a board of directors and managed by Mike Pyrah and Dr Neil Paul from Howbeck Healthcare with help from Lorraine Carter, our Practice Manager lead.
