The objective of this project is to improve patient engagement, improve DNA rates and provide an effective method of interacting with patients directly. Bi-Directional SMS messaging, will provide for automatic incoming cancellations and re booking requests through EMIS, the principle clinical system provider in the South Cheshire and Vale Royal localities.

Using text messaging helps ensure that appointments are more likely to be attended and the facility to re arrange appointments through your phone is likely to increase the take up of the service. This will also assist with reducing costs within practices.

Other primary care text-in services available through the bi-directional service are:

  • Patient Feedback
  • Gathering Mobile Numbers
  • Prescriptions Renewals
  • Requesting General Information
  • QOF Responses

Project Funding

The South Cheshire and Vale Royal GP Alliance funds the text message cost and the CCG funds the on-going registration costs. The GP Alliance has worked with iPlato to estimate the number of texts required each year usage will be monitored on a monthly basis to ensure that the budget is adequate.

Project Implementation Date

First deployed in summer 2016. The contract has been renewed for another year and practices are being re-trained.
